Is investing Biblical? Let's face it,Wall Street wasn't around in Jesus' time. The Bible does,however, mention investing. The most obvious example comes from the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30 where it states "The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more." Many people put investing and gambling into the same category. These are two very different concepts. With gambling, there is a winner and a loser. Each side is hoping the other person loses. With investing, you are usually supporting a company with capital in return for the potential increase of your funds. Most investments are hoping for a win-win situation. Gambling is usually based on luck and very short time horizons. Investing should be based on strategy and long-term time horizons.
