As a country, are we turning our backs to God?
I would like you to get a picture in your mind. Envision our planet from far up in space. You are now getting closer and closer and finally to the point that you see only our nation from coast to coast and border to border. You see our nation bathed in a bright, loving light shining from above. It is the light coming from the face of God - the Shekinah glory of God protecting our nation. Now you hear a loud rumbling sound. It gets louder and louder. You begin to see our nation shake as the sound gets louder. Then, to your amazement, it begins to break loose from the world and slowly rise up.The light still shines from above. But now, as our nation rises, it begins to tilt away from the light, turning ever so slowly, but yet consistently away from the light. It’s now almost perpendicular to the earth and receiving very little of the light. If something doesn’t happen to turn it back, it will no longer be able to receive the Shekinah glory of God. That is where I believe our nation is right now. God doesn’t turn His face away from us. We turn our face away from Him. Because of that, we can’t see or feel His presence. More importantly, we can't experience His blessing. Now, this may seem strange to you because, as Americans, we tend to be fiercely independent. You may say, “Well, I’m not turning my face away from God!” But we are corporately responsible if our country turns its face from God. Scripture is full of examples of corporate responsibility. Let’s consider some examples of our country turning away from God:
Christians have become second class citizens in this country in which they are the majority. Our country is slowly but surely turning its back to God and will suffer the consequences unless we begin to reverse the trend. We are the cause of the problem. We have sat back and watched. We have let it happen. But we have the ability to turn it back to the light. And we have the power of the Holy Spirit, the empowerer, to do so. Where do we start? We as Christians have been fairly successful in the political arena. That’s where we have concentrated our efforts. But we haven’t made a dent in the corporate arena. The radical homosexual movement, for example, has figured out that the corporate arena is really where the power is. They threaten boycott or charge discrimination and the corporations lay over and play dead. Do you know how much clout Christian investors have? How much clout you have if we band together? According to research, 41% of the money invested in the stock market is owned by professing born again Christians. That is a lot of clout. Hitler is quoted as saying, “If 5% of a nation moves in any one direction, they can change the direction of the entire nation”. He unfortunately proved that. The radical homosexual community has proven that in America with less than 2% of our population. We own 41% of corporate America but aren’t taking advantage of it. We need to speak with one voice, and that voice is the voice of God! An example of our power is when we banded together through the American Family Association to boycott Ford. They haven’t changed yet, but they are suffering the consequences. Through the American Family Association we did cause Wal-Mart to cease their support of a homosexual organization. There are many ways to take action but I believe the easiest and most effective way to make a difference is through our investments, our IRA’s, 401(k)’s, and other investments by participating in the growing movement of Biblically Responsible Investing. There is a saying that states, “When all is said and done, more is said than done”. My prayer for you is that this article will motivate you to take action.
