Undivided Heart

Do you have an undivided heart?  Learn how your life and your finances can be affected by your relationship with God.

“Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.” - Psalm 86:11

If we don’t come before God with an “undivided heart,” we will fail financially.

As Christians, we have come to the realization that God owns everything. It goes beyond just our material possessions and money. As those redeemed by the blood of Jesus, even our very lives belong to Him.

Personally, when I first came to know Jesus, I was on fire for the Lord! I couldn’t wait to tell others about the saving grace I received from my Savior! I felt like I was David and the world of giants would be delivered into my hand for God’s holy name. My heart was focused on my relationship with my heavenly Father and I expected God to do great things in my life… and He did! I had an “undivided heart.”

As the years go by, I notice myself developing a divided heart, however. I find that other things have begun to compete for my time, talents, and finances: fatherhood, church responsibilities, a growing business and ministry, and more. I seem to lose my joy and peace that I once had felt so strongly.

I justify my lack of time for Bible study and prayer by saying, “I’m too busy doing God’s work to have quiet time right now. God will understand. After all, I’m taking care of the work He has given to me.” I’ve learned however, that we must be certain we never serve the Master’s tasks rather than the Master himself. This is often how a undivided heart is lost.

Every aspect of our lives will be affected by our hearts. Is your heart divided or undivided? Is God the top priority in your life? Or have other things crept in and choked out your relationship with your Father? Develop an undivided heart. Spend time with God to rebuild that relationship.

Financially speaking (and in life in general), we must have an undivided heart. Without an undivided heart…
  • We will confuse our goals for His goals.
  • We will get caught up in this world and ignore eternity.
  • We will ignore the need for Biblically-responsible investments.
  • We will fail to save for our family’s needs.
  • We will not hear God’s voice.
  • We will miss the calling of God in our lives.
Lord, give us undivided hearts that we may fear your name!
